Restorations & bonding

Adhesive and metallic restorations, and bonding for reshaping, repairing or covering discoloured teeth.

What this involves

A straightforward look at the process.

A restoration replaces tooth structure that has been lost through decay, wear or fracture. We use adhesive tooth-coloured materials as well as more traditional metallic restorations, depending on the size, position and function of the tooth being restored.
Bonding is a related technique where tooth-coloured material is shaped directly onto a tooth to repair small chips, close small gaps, or reshape a tooth. It's a conservative option because it usually requires little or no removal of natural tooth structure.
There are often alternative ways of treating the same problem depending on cost and preferred outcome — please discuss the treatment options with the dentist so we can plan an approach that works for you.

Common questions

Good to know before you visit.

Which type of restoration will I need?
That depends on the size and position of the area being restored, the force it will be under, and your own preference. Your dentist will go through the suitable options with you.
How long do restorations last?
Longevity varies based on the material used, the size of the restoration and how you look after your teeth. Regular check-ups let us monitor them over time.
