Preventive care

Regular preventive care to help you keep your own teeth healthy for as long as possible.

What this involves

A straightforward look at the process.

Our practice philosophy is conservative and preventative. That means we focus on stopping problems before they start and treating only what needs to be treated, so more of your natural tooth structure is preserved over the long term.
A typical preventive visit includes a scale and clean, a check of your gums and existing dental work, and a conversation about your day-to-day oral care. Depending on your needs we may also recommend fluoride treatment, fissure sealants for deeper grooves in the back teeth, or a custom-fitted mouthguard for sport.
There are often alternative ways of managing the same problem depending on cost and preferred outcome — please discuss the options with the dentist so we can agree on an approach that suits you.

Common questions

Good to know before you visit.

How often should I come in?
For most people a check-up and clean every six to twelve months is appropriate. Your dentist may suggest a different interval based on your individual needs.
Do you make sports mouthguards?
Yes. We take an impression and fit a custom mouthguard designed for your teeth rather than a generic boil-and-bite version.
Is fluoride treatment suitable for children?
Fluoride treatment is commonly recommended for children and can also be appropriate for adults with a higher risk of decay. Your dentist will discuss whether it is suitable for you.
